Summary

An easy week trying to ramp back up.  I decided to take the weekend off because there was so much to do around the house.  There are still no plans to compete any time soon.  Unfortunately, Gord's Frozen Ass 50 has come and gone.  CRR XC Weaselhead Flats, and Fish Creek Park are both races that I'm probably going to pass on.  My left hamstring is, however, getting better.  I ran in my New Balance Minimus, just to see how my right foot is doing.

Summary

I tried to do some light running at the beginning of the week, but it wasn't doing any good.  I was kinda hoping that something drastic would happen, but some mornings when I ran 100 metres to the bus, I started hurting.  I'm definitely in no shape to run the Frozen Ass 50.  I'm not really upset about this because looking back, I had another really good stretch.  After coming back from an injury in September 2017, I competed 24 times in 18 months.  A week off now is better than having to take most of the summer off.  I just don't know when I will compete next.

Competition: CRR Nose Hill Park 5 Mile XC:  I wasn't going to run this race.  I was planning to put finishing touches on my Frozen Ass 50 training out on some country roads by Rosemary, Alberta, while attending Kev's hockey tournament.  But we decided to cancel due to a snow storm, and poor road conditions.  However, Kev's coach called on Friday, and Michelle decided to head out to the tournament with Kev.  I stayed back to run CRR Nose Hill Park.  In hindsight, this may not have been a good idea.

It was a real slow race because snow was almost knee high.  I started out strong, but within half a mile, while still on the ascend to the top of the park, my left hamstring tightened up and started to pull.  I slowed down, but it didn't really help.  I now had to run over four miles in pain, and potentially causing a serious injury.

I eventually finished the race, and good news, I finished second in the 50 to 59 age group.  This race probably secured me second place overall for the 10 race circuit.  My final time was 53:18 or 10:51 mins/mile, and 16/47 overall or 2/8 in my age group.

Summary

Unfortunately, I won't be running the Frozen Ass 50.  My favorite winter ultra will be held without me for the first time in four years.  I was hoping to take a much needed break after the FA50, but my body wore down last week, and I must pay attention.  My goal was to finish the CRR XC circuit in the top three in my age group, and I accomplished than goal.  I'm not really sure what's next other than some time off.  I would like to try some other sports this winter like XC skiing, and skimo, but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit them in.  Work is also pretty hectic right now due to our latest acquisition.

Summary

It think my body is trying to tell me something.  After Friday night's run, I felt horrible. I wanted to put in a long run on Sunday before the Super Bowl, and finish off another 100 mile week on Sunday night.  But Saturday night I woke up sick, and couldn't get out of bed early enough to run 20+ miles.  I'm still hoping to run my fifth Frozen Ass on Family Day.  I'm hoping to feel better by then.

Competition: CRR Twelve Mile Coulee 5 Mile XC:  After two "not so good" CRR races, I needed a big day.  I was well rested, and I was feeling much better, as compared to the last two competitions.  I started out fast, in the top ten, and was passed once before I headed down into the coulee.  Once I was running in the coulee, I was passed yet again.  I made it back to the top for lap number two, still in the top ten.  I pushed as hard as I could back down into the coulee for the second time.  Would I be able to hold on to a top ten finish?  All I needed to do was run about a mile back to the parking lot.  I tried pushing it again, but I ended up straining my left hamstring, and slowed down a bit.  I was passed one more time before I finished, but it didn't matter, I still finished in the top ten.  My final time was 38:35 or 8:09 mins/mile.  I ended up 9/47 overall and 1/7 in the 50-59 age category.
